Every year the Government of Japan offers the MEXT Teacher’s Training Scholarship for in-service school teachers who want to conduct research and professional training in school education in Japan. This is a non-degree (certificate) training programme — courses usually start in October and include pre-arrival Japanese language training at the host university.

Eligibility Criteria – MEXT Teacher’s Training Scholarship
- Age: Born on or after 2 April 1991.
- Qualifications & experience: University or teacher-training school graduate with at least five years teaching experience in primary/secondary education or teacher-training schools (excluding university faculty) by 1 October 2026.
- Other: Must be able to live and study in an international environment and be willing to learn Japanese (many courses are in Japanese).

Tips for a strong application
- Write a clear, focused Statement of Purpose that explains your research topic or training goals and how it will benefit your school/community.
- Obtain a strong recommendation from your principal that highlights your professional achievements and leadership in school practice.
- Prepare to show evidence of your teaching experience (employment records, appointment letters, etc.).
