Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must have a first class or upper second class honours bachelor’s, or the (equivalent) degree. If undergraduate examination results are not known at the time of application, the Council may make a provisional offer of a scholarship on condition that the scholar’s bachelor’s, or the equivalent, degree result is a first-class or upper second-class honors. If a scholar does not have a first-class or upper second-class honours bachelor’s, or the equivalent, degree, they must possess a master’s degree. The Council’s determination of an applicant’s eligibility on these criteria is final.
- Applicant must not have had two previous unsuccessful applications to the scheme, including strategic partner themes within the scheme.
- The applicant needs to have been officially accepted by the relevant department or school and be a new student to the degree for which they are to receive support from the council.
- Candidates for a research master’s scholarship are not permitted to hold or have held a Council Postgraduate Scholarship at this time.
- Candidates for a PhD scholarship must not be recipients of any other Council Postgraduate Scholarships, either past or present, save those that allow them to pursue a research master’s degree.
- Candidates will be classified into one of two groups according to their domicile and nationality.

- Use the online application portal to submit an online application for the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarships Program 2023. Application forms sent via email or in hard copy will not be accepted.
